Visiting the Department
Although the Department does not offer formal tours,
prospective students are encouraged to visit the Department
by appointment. Please call (608) 262-2828. The Department
is located at 1225 West Dayton Street (map).
Traveling by Car:
From Minneapolis or La Crosse (via I-90/94)
Exit I-90/94 at U.S. 151 south/E. Washington Avenue. Follow E. Washington
Avenue for about 5 miles to Capital Square. As you approach the state
capitol building, you will see signs for the UW campus. Following these
signs will direct you around the central capital area and onto Wisconsin
Avenue. Take Wisconsin Avenue three blocks, crossing Johnson Street,
and take a left onto West Gorham Street which will become University
Avenue. Follow University Avenue seven blocks to Charter Street. Take
a left onto Charter Street. Proceed two blocks on Charter and take
a right onto Dayton Street. Our building is the second building on
the left at 1225 West Dayton Street. There is no off-street parking
for the building.
From Milwaukee (via I-94) :
Where I-94 intersects with I-90, follow the signs
for route 30 into Madison. Exit route 30 at E. Washington
Avenue and go left (west) on E. Washington following
it for about 3 miles to Capital Square. As you approach
the state capital building, you will see signs for
the UW campus. Following the signs will direct you
around the central capital area and onto Wisconsin
Avenue. Take Wisconsin Avenue three blocks, crossing
Johnson Street, and take a left onto W. Gorham Street
which will become University Avenue. Follow University
Avenue seven blocks to Charter Street. Take a left
onto Charter Street. Proceed two blocks on Charter
and take a right onto Dayton Street. Our building is
the second building on the left at 1225 West Dayton
Steet. There is no off-street parking for the building.
From Chicago (via I-90):
Exit I-90 at U.S. 12/18 west and follow 12/18 for
3 miles to the Park Street exit. Take a right onto
Park Street, which heads north, and continue on Park
Street for several miles. Turn left onto West Dayton
Street. Continue on West Dayton for three blocks. Our
building is the second building on the left after Charter
Street intersects West Dayton. We are located at 1225
West Dayton Street. There is no off-street parking
for the building.
From Dubuque (via U.S. 151):
After passing below the Madison Beltline (U.S. 12)
veer to the left onto Midvale Boulevard. Follow Midvale
Boulevard for about 3.5 miles where it eventually comes
to a T-intersection at University Avenue Take a right
onto University Avenue and follow it until it for 2.25
miles. Turn right onto Charter Street. Proceed two
blocks on Charter and take a right onto Dayton Street.

for the building.
From Green Bay/Fox Valley (via U.S. 151):
After passing below I-90/94, U.S. 151 becomes E. Washington
Avenue. Follow E. Washington Avenue for about 5 miles
to Capital Square. As you approach the state capital
building, you will see signs for the UW campus. Following
the signs will direct you around the central capital
area and onto Wisconsin Avenue. Take Wisconsin Avenue

downtown Milwaukee and Mitchell Field Airport. You can purchase

Van Galder Bus Company provides daily round-trip service between
campus and Chicago's O'Hare Airport and the downtown Amtrak station.

Traveling by Plane:

on Madison's northeast side, provides regional and national air
