Welcome!
Thank you very much for visiting our site, and a
warm welcome from our department! Over the last 53
years, we have grown into one of the leading departments
in our field of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
We have strong graduate and undergraduate programs
which are nationally recognized. We pursue research
with a combination of theory, modeling, and diagnostic
studies. We support this work with a foundation of
first-year graduate core courses, and an appealing
range of electives for both graduate and undergraduate
students. (more...)

Reid Bryson Memorial Blog - A place for all to share condolences, sorrow, or memories of Reid
We are very sad to report that Emeritus Professor Reid Bryson passed away at his home in Madison on Wednesday, 11 June 2008.
Reid will be remembered as founder of our Department of Meteorology in 1948, founder of the Center for Climate Research and its endowed Climate, People, and Environment Program, and founder of the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. His fertile mind gave birth to a wide range of studies and opinions on the earth's climate and it peoples. His legacy survives in our University of Wisconsin research and teaching activities extending from our building to other disciplines.
He is survived by his wife Frances, and children Ann, Bill, Bob, and Tom.
