The Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society at the University of Wisconsin-Madison strives to continue the growth of our AOS community through insightful learning experiences and recreational activities. Our intent is to help bridge the connection between academia and the real world environment by promotion interaction among students and working professionals. Through our organization, we hope the member gains a greater sense of awareness of the many exciting opportunities offered in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
Dues are $10 per semester
Bonfire at Picnic Point: On Friday, October 14th, we will have an AMS social out at picnic point sites 4 & 5 starting at 6PM! A bonfire and smores will be provided along with lively chats! Come on out we hope to see you there!
Summer Internship Info Night: On Wednesday, October 28th, we will be having our summer internship info meeting! This event is geared towards the junior class to hear from several seniors about their experiences with summer internships. The meeting will be in AOSS room 811 at 5:30pm, and root beer floats will be provided. See you there!
Meet Your Professor Night: On Tuesday, October 13th, Professor Jon Martin will be speaking at this year's first Meet Your Professor Night! This talk is taking place in Room 811 at 5:30PM. Bring dues for the year ($20) and get to know Professor Martin!
Broadcast Meteorology with Karin Swanson: On Tuesday, March 10th, the AMS Chapter is honored to have Karin Swanson come in and give a talk about her career as a Broadcast Meteorologist. Karin graduated from UW Madison in 2000 with degrees in Atmosphereic & Oceanic Sciences and Spanish, and now works for WISC-TV3 and FOX47 as one of their on-air Meteorolgoists. The meeting will occur in AOSS Room 811 at 5:00PM, and will last for about half an hour, with a Q&A session afterwards. Please stop by to listen to her presentation and come with lots of questions to ask. Pizza and soda will be provided.
AMS Solstice Party!: Join us in celebrating the annual UW Madison - AMS Solstice Party (notably not held during the actual winter solstice). We will have food (taco buffet), drink, skits (we hope from the undergrads, grads, and anyone else who wants in), and music from our very own Professors Jonathan Martin and Grant Petty. This will be held from 6pm to 9pm at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery Building. For costs and extra details either refer to your inviations or go to the Calendar page.
AMS Chapter Meeting: Join us in room 811 @5:00pm on Wednesday Nov. 19 for our second installment of the "Meet Your Instructor" series where we will have Dr. Kulie, who works Space Science and Engineering Center, giving his presentation.
Reminder: If you have not yet paid your dues ($20) for the year, we will still be collecting before and after the meeting.
This year, the UW-Madison AMS Chapter will be going to the Treinen Farm Corn Maze next week on Friday the 17th. We know this is a little short notice, but we would love for you all to attend. The cost will be $10 for transportation and admission to the maze.

AMS Rooftop Party has be rescheduled for Friday September 19. All students and faculty are welcome to join us on the roof (most likely around 4pm) for a
grillout and music as we celebrate the beginning of another wonderful school year at the AOSS building! More details to come, so keep your eyes and ears open.
ATTENTION Juniors: The UW-Madison Chapter of the American Meteorological Society will be sending out an application, via email, to each of the juniors to
become and AMS Junior Officer. Applications will be accepted until no later than 12:00pm on September 12, 2014. Interviews will be organized for promising applicatants,
and only four officers will be chosen from there.
