Week 1 winning photos:

Stacey Schwerman

"A photo taken from my house (by my dad) of storm clouds building right before an afternoon storm. I thought it was interesting how you can see them overtaking the clear sky."

Nick Verbeten

"I took this picture when I was in Canada this summer. I thought the mist and fog on the lake was really intriguing."

Laura Gersh

"The picture I sent you is a picture i took in a helicopter in Australia. It was a picture of a few whorl pools in the water that were in action. I took it in December of 2003."

Week 2 winning photos:

Bryan Buechel

"Just a quick pic that I took up on Lake Winnebigoshish, Minnesota on a fishing trip this summer...this is looking at the storm front as it rolled in from the east...within an hour and a half it dropped 1/2 inch hail."

Stacey Schwerman

"This picture was taken by my dad from our house in the afternoon. A storm front was just starting to move through, and the clouds were completely overtaking the blue sky. The interesting part, I think, is that there were no clouds before this front moved through, and all of the sudden black clouds...nimbostratus...appear out of nowhere."

Week 3 winning photos:

"

Nick Verbeten
"
I took a bunch of pictures while I was in Canada, many of which I will submit to the photo of the week contests.  We had some strange weather up there, one day it was 80 degrees, shorts and shirt, and the next day it dropped to almost freezing, winter jackets and all.  There were some sweet cold fronts, but it produced weather which was hard to pack clothes for.  Anyway...
My photo of the week is another picture I took in Canada this past summer. We were about 200 miles out of Ear Falls (Ontario), on Red Path Lake.  The picture was taken early in the morning, just before we went fishing.  I thought the mix between the sun shining through the fog, the reflection on the water, and the overall color present in the daylight was a perfect picture for a weather and climate class!  The picture was taken around August 10th.
"

Geoffrey Schwartz

The reflections on the water and neat colors seen on the bottom part of the clouds make this one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken. It seems to fit in well with the things we are looking at in class this week."

'I took the photo this past spring as a front approached. We did not have any weather warnings that I recall. Perhaps we were warned regarding high winds. The photo was taken looking south from our front yard...'

Well, my friend's dad who took it was kind enough to ask a professor at UW-Green Bay for his opinion on it, so you may find the following information interesting!

> Hi Katie, > I tracked down much more information about my cloud photo. Turns out > it is a "shelf cloud". Its path through the area was recorded by > others as well, including the National Weather Service in Green Bay."
