Notes:
Born in Massachusetts, as Benjamin Thompson. He sided with British during the Revolutionary War, and left for England in 1776. Spent most of his life employed by the Bavarian Government. Inventor of the Rumford Fireplace (still in use, rivaling the Franklin stove!). Made pioneering measurements on the temperature rise experienced while boring gun barrels, and related it to the work done by the horses in the process.
