Current:
CPEP Project (summer 2010):
For the summer, I am working on running a regional climate model,
RegCM3,
for the purpose of investigating the influence of the Great Lakes on the local climate. I have
successfully completed a one-day simulation using the model, from which output is shown below.
For the one-day simulation, the model was forced using the NCEP-NCAR reanalyais data set.
The left four plots show 500 hPa geopotential height fields on August 1, 1996, while the right
four plots show surface relative humidity for the same time period. What's interesting is the dry slot
of air around 06Z (right figure) located over the Dakotas, which appears to be wrapping itself around the moisture-rich
air located over Wisconsin and Michigan. By 18Z, the two air masses appear to have mixed together.
Past:
WICCI Project (2009/2010):
While working on the WICCI project, my primarly focus was to analyze statistically downscaled climate model
data for the Midwest region. In addition to working with the high-resolution downscaled climate data,
I wrote my master's thesis during this period also.
EPA Star Project (2007/2009):
The research completed during my time working on the EPA star grant included an analysis of extreme
precipitation events in model simulations. One of the main variables we looked at is the vertically
integrated moisture flux convergence term (MFC).
