Introduction
Pilots must know how to read weather maps and decode METARS. Learning ObjectivesThe objectives of this lesson is learning how to read and interpret weather maps and decode weather reports. We will begin with the surface weather map, then discuss METARS and finally discuss upper air maps. Future lessons will build on this information and provide additional practice in reading this weather information. How to ProceedFirst learn how to decode the surface model, then move on to the METAR and finally the upper air maps. The links are given in the Content link to the left. Once you read those sections, move on to the Learnin Activity Link on the left side of this page to conduct some practice. Time RequirementDepending on your comfort and experience with reading maps, this lesson should take approximately 1 to 3 hours to complete. |
