Pete holds Bachelor of Science (1988) and Master of Science (1992, Tripoli) degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he majored in Atmospheric Science.

After getting his Masters degree, Pete spent three years working with the Tripoli group conducting numerical modeling research on the December 15, 1987 mesoscale gravity wave case. He has been the UW-AOS Computer Systems administrator since 1995, managing the department computer systems and data, and sharing his technology knowledge with faculty, staff and students. Pete teaches an introduction to Unix/Linux every fall, and he served on the Unidata Users Committee from 2016-2018.
